On behalf of the Permanent Representation of Georgia to the Council of Europe, CEDS participated in International Conference on Civil Participation in Decision-making will be held online on 6 May 2020 and 7 May 2020.
This event is organised by the City of Tbilisi and the Council of Europe’s Directorate General of Democracy in the framework of the Georgian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (November 2019 – May 2020).
The objective of the conference is to highlight the importance of civil participation in decision-making to community development and the life of the polis, and to showcase innovative and successful experiences of civil engagement at the local, regional and national level. The conference will also promote the unique work of the Council of Europe in this area.
CEDS involvement in this conference is obviously correlated with its interest in alternative tracks promoting civil society and non official diplomaties. In addition many researches undertaken within CEDS programmes were focusing on reforming governance and public policies. Georgia offers a particular case of significant change in governance since the split of the Soviet Union in late 1991, as it moved lately away from many of the « political diseases » from which many other countries are still suffering.
